From a Facebook conversation started back in 2022 Tea Towel Tales was ignited!
Stories in stitch – A Tea Towel Tale is a social history and creative project exploring peoples tea towel treasures and using story and stitch to create artwork responses to those, through, textile techniques, embroidery and paint. Workshops were inter-generational with a focus on sharing and creating connections with each other and learning new skills. Over the course of just 5 weeks, this group have formed a close bond with each other, we have shared laughs and tears, supporting each other through a project that at times has been deeply personal and emotive. For many participants it was been a healing process, a chance to reflect on stories, memories and people held dear.
On Friday 28th of March 2023 we held an interactive inter-generational exhibition where over 60 people attended our open evening at Parc Arts in Treforest of our exhibition where 14 tea towel inspired artworks were displayed alongside digital storytelling films, photography, poetry and prose.
“A delightfully local exhibition full of passionate stories of the area and people and journeys that brought them here. Poems written by one & inspired by the needlework of another. Lots of affectionate smiles and encouragement. What a lovely group and so many joyful tales brought back and shared with our family. Adderchog!” James o’connor and family. “
